Sicilian airports and transfers to city centres

The fastest and simplest way to get to Sicily is by plane. The island has two main airports connected by shuttles to the city centres: that of Falcone-Borsellino which serves Palermo is 32 km from the centre, that of Catania-Fontanarossa (Vincenzo Bellini) 5-7 km from the centre.
A third is less busy: the Vincenzo Florio di Trapani-Birgi airport 15 km from Trapani and 18 km from Marsala. A fourth has very little traffic with the Comiso airport (Pio La Torre), located about 5 km from the town of Comiso and 15 km from Ragusa.

Palermo-Falcone-Borsellino airport connections:

  • Bus: Prestia e Comandè company (direct buses, frequency about every 30 minutes, average duration 40–50 min)
  • Train: Trinacria Express linking the airport to Palermo Centrale in about 45–60 min).
  • Taxi

Catania – Fontanarossa Vincenzo Bellini airport connections

  • Bus: this is the main connection by the AMTS Alibus bus (line 457) linking the airport to the central station and the city centre in about 20–25 min
  • Train: no direct rail connection yet although a project is under development
  • Taxi

Trapani-Birgi airport connections

  • connections are provided by bus (notably AST and private services) with journey times of about 25–40 min.

Flights to the Sicilian islands

the islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa are served all year round by regular flights from Palermo and Catania (duration about 1 hour), with additional services in the summer season.
The other islands (Aeolian, Pelagian, etc.) can be reached mainly by sea.
