Presentation and tour

The Drago Ajroldi di Santa Colomba Palace is a historic palace in the Cassaro district, located along the present-day Corso Vittorio Emanuele, a major urban axis of Palermo of ancient origin.
The origin of the building is unknown, but it stands on Roman and Arab remains.
In the 18th century it was a possession of the Drago family, as attested by the coat of arms on the facade, a family that held administrative and ecclesiastical offices.

Portal of the Drago Ajroldi Palace

The late Baroque portal is topped by a tympanum with volutes and a coat of arms depicting a dragon.
Embellishments were carried out in the 18th century, including the reconstruction of the terrace, or the frescoes by Olivio Sozzi which are among the most important Sicilian paintings of that period. Sozzi was a major painter of the Sicilian late Baroque, active in Palermo, Caltanissetta and Ragusa.
Alterations occurred in the 19th century, including the facade, when the palace passed through the dowry to the Airoldi, Marquis of Santa Colomba, giving neoclassical touches to certain frescoes, rooms and the facade.

The entrance hall and the adjoining room, with its stuccos from the workshop of Serpotta, also bear three pagan frescoes by Olivio Sozzi: the command of Zeus to Hermes, the Judgment of Paris and the Allegories of the Virtues.
