The Palazzo Gangi Valguarnera is a prestigious Palermitan palace that was built by Andrea Gigenti between 1750 and 1780 at the wish of Prince Pietro di Valguarnera to rebuild a family palace.
It is remarkable for the perfect preservation of all its interior furnishings, its architectural qualities, its Sicilian Baroque style, and its decorations.
Architecture and visit
Its rather sober exterior contrasts with the opulence of the interior, where one discovers beautiful rooms such as the Hall of Mirrors with its mirrors and its double ceiling; the hall of honor whose ceiling was painted in 1792 by Elia Interguglielmi depicting the Glory of the virtuous prince; the ballroom; or the yellow room where Gaspare Serenario painted the Triumph of the virtues necessary to the prince in 1754.
The ballroom has kept its splendid furnishings, with sofas, carved chairs, consoles, decorated walls, wood paneling, and its large mirrors. The most surprising is the original vault with its scenographic Baroque effect.
Luchino Visconti filmed the dance scene of the movie The Leopard there.
