The Palazzo Conte Federico is a historic palace in Palermo built around an ancient 12th-century Norman tower, the Torre di Scrigno, on the old walls of the original Punic city.
It is still inhabited by Count Alessandro Federico, whose family descends from the Swabian emperor Frederick II.
Architecture and tour
What remains of the 12th-century Torre di Scrigno tower is an old gateway to the city (the Porta Busuemi) and two beautiful mullioned windows, one Norman and one Aragonese with coats of arms from the period.
The inner courtyard was decorated by the Baroque architect Venanzio Marvuglia.
A large red marble staircase leads to the main floor, whose rooms bear the marks of different eras. There you can discover furniture, painted wooden ceilings and paintings dating back to the 15th century, 18th-century frescoes by Vito d’Anna and Gaspare Serenario, and collections of weapons and ceramics.
