The Church of Saint Augustine (Chiesa di Sant’Agostino), located in the Capo district (Seralcadi), is a building of Sicilian Gothic origin, constructed at the end of the 13th century over an older church, under the influence of the Augustinian order.

Presentation and visit

The facade of the church is distinguished by a large Gothic rose window and a portal adorned with arches and geometric motifs, decorations financed by the noble Sclafani and Chiaramonte families, whose coats of arms are still visible.

The interior features a single nave, richly decorated in the 17th century by Giacomo Serpotta, whose stuccoes depict saints and allegorical figures, the artist even signing certain statues with a lizard-shaped symbol.
The complex also includes a large cloister from the second half of the 16th century, characterized by elegant arcades and a central fountain, a vestige of the former Augustinian convent.
